Everything you need to know about the process before, during, and after getting a tattoo from me.
The tattoo process doesn’t begin and end with the time that you spend in the tattoo studio. To ensure the best possible outcome there are ways to prepare and aftercare that should be followed as outlined below.
Before your appointment;
Avoid sun exposure in the days leading up to the appointment.
It is recommended to wear sunscreen daily not just to protect your tattoos but for your overall health. This is especially important in the days leading up to the appointment as skin that is repairing itself from sun damage is more difficult to tattoo and slower to heal. In the week before the appointment avoid spending time in the sun during peak UV exposure hours. If you arrive sunburned to your appointment we will have to reschedule and another deposit may be needed for the next appointment.
Make sure your body is fueled properly.
It is essential that you have a meal before your appointment. Even if you don’t typically eat in the morning have a small snack and bring additional food to have during your appointment. The body sometimes experiences a drop in blood sugar during an appointment which may lead to light headedness, having food in the system helps your body maintain a regulated state.
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment.
Not only will you feel better during your appointment, hydrated skin is the ideal canvas to work on.
Do not apply any products that soak into the skin on the day of the appointment.
Please do not apply any moisturizer the morning of your tattoo appointment. Do not apply any fake tan for the 2 weeks prior to the appointment. Shaving is not necessary as I will do that for you.
After your appointment I will either apply Saniderm (Second Skin) or wrap the tattoo in cling wrap.
If I have used Saniderm you don’t have to worry about after care for approx 3 days before you take the second skin off.
If I have wrapped your tattoo in cling wrap, when you get home take off the cling wrap and give your tattoo a gentle rinse with warm water only to remove any excess ink/plasma. Let it air dry afterwards, if you plan to wear clothing that is tight against the tattoo, reapply a fresh piece of cling wrap yourself. Begin the aftercare process the next morning.
Beginning the aftercare process;
It is essential that you wash and moisturize your tattoo twice daily, usually in the morning before leaving the house and in the evening when you get home.
Before you wash your tattoo give your hands a wash. Use a gentle, antibacterial soap to wash. It can be tattoo specific, however it is not completely necessary as long as alcohol or fragrance aren’t the primary ingredients. Let the tattoo air dry or pat it dry with a paper towel. Avoid using the bath towel as it’s full of bacteria.
For moisturizer everyone has their own preference for what works best. I personally prefer raw shae butter, it offers deep moisturization and is vitamin rich. Be sure you warm it between your fingers before applying a thin layer on top of your tattoo. If you’d prefer a different moisturizer there are many options available, one of the most popular ones being bepanthen antiseptic cream. Many people have reported irritation with the tattoo version so just the classic version is recommended. Whichever moisturizer you use, apply a very thin layer as you don’t want to suffocate the tattoo.
For the next 2 weeks it is extremely important to avoid direct sun exposure to the tattoo or submerging it in water. This includes saunas and bathtubs. It is recommended to avoid training for at least 3 days after the appointment, sticking to light exercise only. Do not pick at your tattoo.
After your appointment;
Lifetime care
The aftercare process doesn’t end when the tattoo is healed. Applying moisturizer often and wearing sunscreen during any sun exposure will keep the tattoo looking as fresh as possible for as long as possible.

All of my booking information is available in my shop. There you are able to purchase a tattoo token if you’d like to purchase the rights to get one of my flash designs tattooed by another artist, book a design commission, or use the “Book Now” button to request an appointment from me. Once we have finalized the details of the booking I will require a deposit to lock in the appointment time/date. For a small/medium sized piece I charge per piece depending on the size, complexity, and area of the body. For larger pieces I charge in half day (3 hours) or full day (7.5 hours including a 30 min break) sessions at a flat rate, offering a more affordable option for large scale pieces.

Deposits are refundable up to 72 hours before the appointment, however if you need to reschedule the deposit may be moved to another appointment within 48 hours of the booking. Any cancellations or reschedules within this time frame may result in loss of deposit, requiring a new deposit for another appointment. If you need to cancel or reschedule please get in contact with me as soon as possible, I totally understand that life happens sometimes however a lot of time and effort goes into preparing for an appointment.

Pain is a very personal experience and will depend entirely on your threshold as well as the size/complexity/area of the tattoo. The pain of getting a tattoo is typically completely manageable. However, for longer sessions if you need to take multiple breaks to manage the pain just let me know and I’m happy to stop as often as you need.

If you’d like to use numbing cream before the appointment please contact me beforehand so we can discuss the best options. I generally do not recommend numbing cream because of the change in skin texture and potentially healing poorly.
Tattooing over scarring is typically no problem depending on how deep and/or fresh the scar is. If you’d like a tattoo over scarred skin please include that information in the booking form.

I offer free touch ups on tattoos within 3 months of the original session excluding tattoos done on hands, feet, or ears as those areas in particular are prone to drop outs. Please get in contact with me no sooner than 3 weeks but no later than 3 months after your session to schedule a touch up.

I am always happy to consider covering or reworking a tattoo that you’ve had done, however please keep in mind not all tattoos are able to be covered well. In most cases I would recommend a session or two of laser removal to open up the options a bit more and give you a better chance of receiving a tattoo that you’re happy with.
